70-Week Prophecy

Chief

Chief of Sinners.
Imagine a 500-year-old prediction pinpointing the exact timeline of Jesus’ life, death, and the spread of Christianity. Sounds impossible? Yet the Bible’s 70-week prophecy in Daniel 9 does just that—and it’s one of the most jaw-dropping examples of divine foresight.

A 490-Year Countdown to Redemption

At first glance, Daniel 9:24–27 sounds cryptic: “Seventy weeks are decreed… to put an end to sin and to atone for wickedness.” But for Bible scholars, these verses are a masterclass in prophecy. Adventists, like many historicist interpreters, see this as a literal 490-year timeline (70 weeks x 7 days/week = 490 days = 490 years).

Why 490 years?
It’s all about the day-year principle—a key to unlocking biblical prophecy. Just as the Israelites wandered 40 years for 40 days of doubt (Numbers 14:34), each “day” in prophetic time equals a literal year. So, 70 weeks (490 days) = 490 years.

The Countdown Begins: Rebuilding Jerusalem

The prophecy starts with a royal decree to rebuild Jerusalem. But which decree?
  1. 538 B.C.: Cyrus allows Jews to rebuild the temple (Ezra 1).
  2. 457 B.C.: Artaxerxes empowers Ezra to restore Jerusalem’s laws and governance (Ezra 7). This “full restoration” decree kicks off the 490-year clock.
Fast-forward 483 years (69 weeks) to…

A.D. 27: The Messiah Arrives

Right on schedule, Jesus is baptized and anointed by the Holy Spirit (Luke 3:22). Daniel’s prophecy called this moment “Messiah the Prince”—the start of Jesus’ ministry.

Three and a half years later…

A.D. 31: The Ultimate Sacrifice

In the middle of the final “week” (7 years), Jesus is crucified, “cut off, but not for Himself” (Daniel 9:26). His death:
  • Ends animal sacrifices: The temple veil tears, signaling direct access to God (Matthew 27:51).
  • Fulfills the covenant: Jesus becomes the final sacrifice for sin (Hebrews 10:12).

A.D. 34: The Gospel Explodes Beyond Israel

The last “week” ends with Stephen’s martyrdom (Acts 7), sparking persecution that scatters Christians—and the gospel—to the Gentiles. This fulfills Daniel’s vision of “sealing up vision and prophecy” and confirms the shift from Israel to a global church (1 Peter 2:9).

Why This Prophecy Matters Today

While the 70 weeks ended in A.D. 34, they’re part of a bigger puzzle: the 2,300-day prophecy (Daniel 8:14).
  • 457 B.C. to A.D. 1844: The 2,300-year timeline ends with Christ entering the heavenly sanctuary’s Most Holy Place—a final atonement before His return.
  • Cleansing of sin: Just as Old Testament priests cleansed the earthly sanctuary, Jesus now prepares to eradicate sin forever (Hebrews 9:23–28).

Confidence for the Future

Daniel’s prophecy isn’t just history—it’s a roadmap to hope. It proves:
  1. Bible reliability: Precise predictions validate Scripture’s divine origin.
  2. God’s faithfulness: If He kept His word about Jesus’ first coming, He’ll fulfil His promise to return.
The same God who orchestrated history is preparing eternity. As we near Christ’s second coming, Daniel’s 70-week prophecy reminds us: Every detail is in His hands.

As important as this prophecy is to traditional SDA people, how come I was banned for preaching for 2 years when I preached on the theories of faith presented by Marion Berry way back in 1992 at Sonoma College as a missionary. Nobody never told me the theories of faith as Marian Berry presented, the wife of a famous SDA Pastor was heresy. In fact I cannot find anywhere on the earth the 10 CD set attached to the Walter Veith Onslaught Set, a volume of 40 CD that I watched for hours and hours for 2 weeks, from a friend I borrowed the set from way back in 1985. How come her material is not regarded by the Church anymore?

In fact even elder SDA teacher Dave Westbrook in his Back to Enoch website, preaching Out of the Cities message is also no more. You cannot find his messages anywhere. They are gone. So currently there is no SDA person willing to detail the end time events about to unfold before us. And what would it matter, since the COV19 scare the SDA church was disappointing to say the least. We did not protect our people, but let them to their own, so many of us got jabbed. What a stupid tragedy that was.

My question to the SDA at large is why are we afraid to study the Scriptures like we used to, the people of the book?

Shalom

I am not sure the premise for your banning, those who pronounced the banning should have highlighted why they prohibit you from preaching.

I agree with you that the Church has really toned down, especially on the prophecy.

Why aren't we allowed to preach things we are uncertain of?
Personally, I wouldn't encourage anyone to preach things they are uncertain of.
Does anybody have any details on the end of time coming before us?
Christ says none but the father knows the day and the time. However, Christ left us with the signs of the time to tell us when His coming draws near (Mathew 24: 14 - And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.)
Are you familiar with Marian Berry comments on Mrs White Daniel 12 prophecies?
I am not familiar with Marian's commentaries.

Pity Chief, it seems the Masons want to remove the 10 DVD set where Marian Berry preached about the EGW statements on Daniel 12.

You say" Personally, I wouldn't encourage anyone to preach things they are uncertain of.

I hear Pastors preach of salvation in Jesus but do not define genuine faith properly?

Technically we know little about salvation at all, Paul calls it a mystery. Shalom

I am curious, what do you think about Hosea 6:2, which said: "After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight." Hos 6:2. Jesus had said, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." Jon 2:19. According to the day year principle, two days would equal two thousand years. Would the two thousand years start with Jesus dying on the cross, or would it start with the destruction of the temple? If it began with His death on the cross, two thousand years would be fulfilled roughly 2034 AD. However, if it started with the temple destruction, we would have significantly longer. The "third day" would be the millennium, after which He would raise up His people to live with Him forever. Your thoughts?

Hmm? Note sure this verse speaks of symbolic time, a day for a year principle?

Have a look at my own study...

With Digital ID coming, now is the time to get ready, start prepping.

Waiting for Sunday Law to come first will be a little too late I feel.
Better to be practicing living in the country places NOW

The dates 2027 to 2032 are not much different to your rendering. Indeed we are close and now is the time to be getting ready

Shalom

I looked at your link. Very impressive! You have come up with a similar date. We need to use what little time we have left to spread the message of salvation in Jesus Christ and His soon coming. Also get ourselves right with Him in every way. Thank you for posting about these important things.

Your welcome, and this second Feast of Tabernacles thing, being 2 per year, a month later is not well known by the SDA, a person I stumbled upon, thanks to the Lord. So the bottom line the year 2032 is coming soon and not another tetrad for another hundred years, so this one coming may be the beginning of the time of the end. Such an event does not predict the coming of the Lord. only the season when things are near, even at the doors.

Now is the time to prep. Waiting for Sunday Law to appear is too late, assuming you are not Digitally tied down before the big sign arrives. Shalom

The Feast of Tabernacles likely is the time when Jesus returns or settles with us. It was fulfilled when Jesus was born but has three phases of fulfillment. The last fulfillment has not happened yet. By the way, I learned about the second tithe this week. If differs from the regular tithe, which was to be given to the Levites. This second tithe is found in Deu 14:22-29. It was to be enjoyed and eaten by the person who brought the tithe, although every third year the Levite was to eat of it. No only them, but the stranger, the fatherless, and the widows. I looked it up and found the third and sixth year they were to give the second tithe, and in the seventh year everyone was to rest regarding the second tithe. The regular tithe for the Levites is found in Num 18:21-24. (They were required to give a tithe to the priests also). Had you ever heard of two tithes?

Great talking to you too. I live in Australia, in sunny Queensland.

How are you coping with Digital ID? In comes to us in Dec this year.

Some states have digital id, but it is not mandatory. I have never gotten one. I am not opposed to getting one in the future, it may make life easier. But I understand the concerns you have. It would make it easier to track people. However, there are many other ways the government is able to track us, including credit card purchases, phone gps, and internet use. I am not worried about it right now but there are many other things going on in my country. The new president is tearing down many things and building them up according to his interests, also deporting many people without due process. The union of church and state is becoming less which seems like a good thing. However, if any particular church becomes the government choice, it will certainly persecute all other churches. But I am trusting in God.

We are going to say no to the digital ID, just as we also said no to the COV19 vaccines. I find the two concepts are related and the world is testing us to see how much of the fibre of Satan's world we are prepared to hang unto.

1Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

And

Jas 5:1 ¶ Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.
6 Ye have condemned and killed the just;

We are the hired labourers of the merchants and they are stripping away our freedom and rights to live

Jas 5:8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

I am happy about the coming of Jesus and the ending of this great controversy

9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

My brother a SDA Pastor took the COV19 jabs, I feel sorry for him and others like him, but we are not to grudge them because of their choices. We all work our own salvation in Jesus with fear and trembling...

There are also many of us not worried about eating GMO foods as well?

De 22:9 Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled

I never did understand this verse until recently. It not talking ABOUT hybrids, its talking about GMO products.

Just as EGW spoke of GM-humans in the days of Noah. Those who have COV19 jabs are now labelled as transhumans,
not natural humans.

Shalom

I appreciate your stand against certain things like vaccination, but I disagree with what you said in your last paragraph. Ellen White said hybrids in the days of Noah were what God had not created, and they could not have salvation. People who have taken the covid shot can still be saved, there is a difference. We cannot tell people they are lost because they took the covid jab.

I am sorry, my writing did not intend that connection. Yes indeed COV19 people can be saved. Nicotine for example reverses the damage, so that is great news indeed.

I have a friend of mine who I taught genuine faith, and he walks with God despite being jabbed three times. He is the first one I taught, after learning about genuine faith myself, after 45 years of dabbling with faith in the SDA church. It's funny nobody in the Church told me how to do faith, so it was the Lord who confirmed my findings into His leading with me. My friend knows nothing of other doctrine creeds, only faith. The others are not essential anyway. I miss him, he was a great work colleague.

Enjoy your day
Shalom

Wow. I am an amalgamated species! Shots and a booster.

.Short version: Smoking worsens COVID-19 outcomes. Nicotine itself hasn’t been shown to prevent or treat COVID-19.

  • #1: Smoking (current or former) is linked with more severe disease and death once infected. CDC lists “smoking, current and former” among conditions with conclusive evidence for higher risk of severe COVID-19. Multiple meta-analyses also find higher severity and mortality in people who smoke. CDCSpringerLinkPubMed
  • #2: Early-pandemic hints that smokers were “under-represented” among hospitalized patients (the so-called “smoker’s paradox”) are largely explained by biases (misclassification, under-reporting, population differences). Reviews caution against treating this as protection. BMJ Evidence-Based Medicinecebm.ox.ac.uk
  • #3: Nicotine patches as a COVID treatment haven’t panned out. In a randomized, double-blind trial of critically ill, ventilated COVID-19 patients, transdermal nicotine did not improve 28-day mortality or other key outcomes. PMC
  • #4: Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) for hospitalized smokers may help with withdrawal and was observationally associated with lower mortality in a large U.S. cohort—but that study can’t prove nicotine caused the benefit. (It likely reflects appropriate withdrawal management during care.) PMC
  • #5: Lab and mechanistic work is mixed. Some hypotheses suggest nicotine’s effects on nicotinic acetylcholine receptors could modulate inflammation, but in vitro studies have also found nicotine can worsen SARS-CoV-2–related cellular damage. Net clinical benefit hasn’t been demonstrated. MDPI
  • #6: Long-COVID: evidence for nicotine patches is limited to small case series and reports; there are no high-quality randomized trials showing benefit yet. It’s investigational, not standard care. PMC

Bottom line: Don’t use nicotine to prevent or treat COVID-19. If someone already smokes, using NRT to quit reduces long-term health risks and avoids the harms of smoking; but nicotine itself hasn’t been shown to help with COVID. (If you’re considering NRT for any reason, especially with other health conditions, talk with your clinician.)

Thanks, Chat. Took me a long time to stop smoking completely.

I am sorry brother you are labelled by the Supreme Court of the USA as "transhuman", got nothing to do with me, and you are not according to my understanding an amalgamated species! As for your many links to counter my claims, that is your choice and decision to do so, I will not debate you, because you are already with your own world view.

I took nicotene patches for many weeks, you cut the patch into quarters and stick a small piece unto your upper arm with sticky tape. My wife and I do not smoke and have never smoked, and no "I can confirm" nicotene is not addictive. Smoking companies add other chemicals like pyoxine ? my spelling is wrong I guess, to make smoking addictive. So my understanding we have been lied too.
You may not agree to this, but that is OK, as I have another different world view to you.

One day a few weeks back an mocking SDA website challenged me to show a health message in the moral law.

That was some challenge !

Have a read of this post and rebuttal of mine and care to comment - shalom.
