Belief #16. Lord's Supper

The Lord’s Supper is a participation in the emblems of the body and blood of Jesus as an expression of faith in Him, our Lord and Saviour. The Lord’s Supper, observed as a communion service, is a significant event for Seventh-day Adventist Christians. It commemorates Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and serves as a moment of unity, gratitude, and reflection for the church community. This service is open to all who recognise Jesus as their Lord.

Key Aspects of the Lord’s Supper:

  1. Emblems and Ordinances:-
    • Bread: Symbolises Christ’s body, broken for humanity's salvation. It reminds us of Jesus's words, "This is My body" (Matthew 26:26).
    • Wine: Represents Jesus's blood, shed for the forgiveness of sins, as noted in Matthew 26:28.
    • Foot washing: Known as the "Ordinance of Humility," it follows Jesus' example of servitude and cleansing.
  2. Preparation and Meaning:
    • The communion service is a solemn act that requires self-examination and repentance as outlined by Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 11.
    • Participants remember Jesus’s death and resurrection, celebrating deliverance from sin akin to the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt.
By partaking in these rites, believers express their faith and declare the Lord’s death until His return, reinforcing their commitment to live in Christ's love and humility.
