Adventists view prophecy as a significant spiritual gift bestowed by the Holy Spirit for the benefit of humanity, as highlighted in several biblical passages. Ellen White, one of the church's founders, exemplified this gift through her ministry.
  1. Spiritual Gift of Prophecy: This gift, according to 1 Corinthians 14, offers messages from God to strengthen, encourage, and console the church. It is considered an important and honourable gift.
  2. Biblical Examples: Throughout the Bible, numerous prophets conveyed God's messages to His people. In the New Testament, prophets helped in establishing and expanding the early church.
  3. Diversity of Prophets: The Holy Spirit used various people as prophets, regardless of their social status or background, including women like Deborah and Anna.
  4. Purpose and Use: The gift is intended to edify the church, provide guidance, warn of future events, and help believers remain focused on God, especially in anticipation of Jesus' Second Coming.
  5. Ellen G. White: Her writings are considered authoritative within the Adventist Church, offering guidance and instruction while affirming the Bible as the ultimate standard for teaching and experience.
Adventists believe this gift will become more prominent as we approach the Second Coming and emphasise discernment in distinguishing true prophets from false ones.
