Belief #8. Great Controversy

All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God’s adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels. In the battle of good versus evil, the Bible tells us that God will ultimately triumph over Satan. This spiritual conflict, known as the "Great Controversy," depicts humanity caught between these forces due to free will and choices made since the Garden of Eden.

We explore how evil began with Lucifer's rebellion in heaven, leading to his fall as Satan and the subsequent temptation of Adam and Eve. Their sin introduced a distorted view of God and a propensity for selfishness, casting humanity into this ongoing battle.

Understanding The Great Controversy

Humanity is embroiled in a cosmic struggle between Christ and Satan over God’s character and sovereignty. This conflict started when a proud angel, later known as Satan, rebelled against God. His deception led Adam and Eve to sin, distorting humanity's perception of God and unleashing chaos on earth.

The Battle on Earth

Satan’s fall brought this conflict to earth as he sought to corrupt God’s new creation. Despite this, God permits both good and evil to exist, enabling us to choose whom we serve and to demonstrate the truth of His character.

Our Role

We are encouraged to choose God, supported by promises throughout the Bible. These scriptures urge us to draw near to God, resist temptation, and embrace His salvation.

God’s Ultimate Victory

The Bible promises that God will ultimately eradicate sin and establish a new, eternal kingdom. The choice in this spiritual battle is ours: follow God and receive salvation, or continue in rebellion and face eventual destruction.
