Sermon idea for the Sabbath of February 15, 2025.
BY CÉSAR AND CAROLANN DE LEÓN
- Text: Genesis 1:26-27 (KJV) - "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
Humanity is the pinnacle of creation, reflecting God's glory and creativity. The absence of God leads to chaos and darkness, as seen in the creation story. However, God’s presence, symbolised by light, is essential for life and growth. Sandra, a young woman,
experienced this transformation when she returned to God after a period of spiritual darkness.
Created in His Image
As image-bearers, we are designed to reflect God's attributes such as compassion, love, and reason. We are called to a relationship with God through love and faith. This relationship is exemplified by the Trinity's unity and love.
Gender and Sexuality
God created humans, male and female, in His image to reflect relational harmony. Our sexuality is intended as a good gift from God, but it has been distorted by the Fall, leading to various forms of brokenness. Despite this, we are called to pursue authentic sexuality and relationships that reflect God's image.
Conclusion
Our journey towards authentic sexuality involves acknowledging and healing from our brokenness. By embodying God's love and compassion, we can help others experience His grace. As image-bearers, we must continually seek healing and restoration through our relationship with God, impacting every aspect of our lives. Amen.
